Powered by Microsoft 365

What happened to my student email account?

Starting Monday, April 13th, you need to begin using your new CUNY email account. Here are the key changes:

  • Your new primary student email address is your CUNY Login username (firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu).
  • Sign in to your email using your CUNY Login. The same account that you use to sign in to CUNYfirst, Navigate, Brightspace, and DegreeWorks.
  • You need to configure your devices to access your new CUNY student email.
  • You need to set up a new multi-factor authentication (MFA) option to access your email.
  • If you attend or work at other CUNY colleges, all messages go to your new unified mailbox. (You only need to check one mailbox for all CUNY.)
  • Messages sent to your old Brooklyn College email address are automatically forwarded to your new email address.
  • You can no longer use external email addresses, like Gmail, as your preferred CUNY address.

What is my new email address?

You received multiple new CUNY email addresses:

  • firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu: This is your primary mailbox — it’s where all your email gets delivered.
  • firstname.lastname##@stu-mail.brooklyn.cuny.edu: This is your Brooklyn College branded email alias address.
  • firstname.lastname##@cuny.edu: This is your CUNY branded email alias address.
  • You will receive additional branded email aliases for any other CUNY colleges you attend.

Email aliases are alternative email addresses that forward messages to your primary mailbox. You can use any of the available CUNY email aliases above as your preferred send-from address.

Can I send and receive mail from any of my CUNY email aliases?

Yes. As a Brooklyn College student, the @stu-mail.brooklyn.cuny.edu is your default preferred send-from email address, but you can use any of your other available CUNY email aliases as your preferred email.

How do I access my new CUNY student email account?

The easiest way to access your new email account is using Outlook on the Web (sign in using your CUNY Login). You can also configure your devices for CUNY student email.

What happened to my old Brooklyn College email?

You don’t have to worry about losing anything.

  • Your old emails are being copied over: CUNY is copying everything in your current Brooklyn College mailbox to your new account.
  • You can still access your old account: Your old Brooklyn College email account will remain available (read-only) for a while after the switch.
  • Emails sent to your old address are forwarded: If someone sends a message to your old Brooklyn College email, it is automatically forwarded to your new email. The sender also gets an auto-reply letting them know your new address.

Does my new student email account require multi-factor authentication (MFA)?

Yes. You will be prompted to create a new Microsoft 365 MFA profile when you first sign in to your account. How to set up your multi-factor authentication.

If your MFA is already set up and you have lost access to your verification option, please contact the ITS Helpdesk for assistance.

Do I need separate MFA options for both my CUNY Login and CUNY email accounts?

Yes. Your Microsoft 365 MFA is separate from your CUNY Login MFA and different than the MFA used for your old college email account. Learn more.

What if I have files saved in my old OneDrive account?

If you have files saved in your current Brooklyn College OneDrive account, you need to copy these files to your new CUNY M365 account. You can drag-and-drop between accounts. Learn more about OneDrive.
