What’s happening to my student email account?
During Spring Break 2026, every CUNY student will get a new CUNY email account and address. It will be ready to use when you return on Monday, April 13.
This new account is an upgrade over your current Brooklyn College email account. Here’s what makes it better:
- One inbox, one login: All of your college and CUNY email addresses go to the same mailbox, so you only have to check one place.
- You won’t miss important messages: All official emails from Brooklyn College and CUNY systems, like Brightspace and CUNYfirst, will go to your new inbox. Messages sent to your old Brooklyn College address will be automatically forwarded to your new email address.
- Works with Microsoft 365: Your email connects with apps like Word, Excel, Teams, and OneDrive for easy file sharing and group projects.
- Better security: Stronger protection against scam emails, suspicious links, and spam.
What’s changing?
- Your email address is changing. Your student email is moving to a single CUNY mailbox using your CUNY Login username (firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu).
You will also receive additional branded email aliases for Brooklyn College (firstname.lastname##@stu-mail.brooklyn.cuny.edu), CUNY (firstname.lastname##@cuny.edu), and additional aliases for any other CUNY campus you are attending. - How you access email is changing. You will sign in to your new mailbox using your CUNY Login.
- One mailbox for all CUNY. You will have the same mailbox for all CUNY colleges you attend. Messages sent to any of your new CUNY email aliases all end up in your one unified CUNY mailbox. You will only have to check one mailbox.
- Your old preferred email address will be replaced by your primary campus alias (firstname.lastname##@stu-mail.brooklyn.cuny.edu). You will have the option to change this to any of your available CUNY email aliases, but external email addresses, like Gmail, can no longer be used as your preferred address.
Can I send and receive mail from any of my email aliases?
Yes. As a Brooklyn College student, the @stu-mail.brooklyn.cuny.edu will be your default send-from email address, but you will have the option to use any of your other available CUNY email aliases.
Do I need to do anything to prepare before April 13th?
Yes. Here are two things you should do now to help ensure a smooth email migration:
- Set up your new Microsoft 365 Multi-Factor Authentication now (highly recommended): Since your new email is using a new Microsoft 365 account, you will need to create a new MFA profile. This MFA is separate from your CUNY Login MFA and different from the MFA used for your current Brooklyn College email account. Follow the guide to setting up your multi-factor authentication in advance. You can do this right now to save time and get help, if needed.
- Copy any files stored on your old OneDrive: If you stored any files in your current Brooklyn College OneDrive account, you need to copy these files to your new CUNY M365 account. Learn more about OneDrive.
