What’s happening to my student email account?
During Spring Break 2026, every CUNY student will get a new CUNY email account. It will be ready to use when you return on Monday, April 13.
This new account is an upgrade over your current Brooklyn College email account. Here’s what makes it better:
- One inbox, one login: All of your college and CUNY email addresses go to the same mailbox, so you only have to check one place.
- You won’t miss important messages: All official emails from Brooklyn College and CUNY will go straight to your new inbox. Messages sent to your old Brooklyn College address will be automatically forwarded to your new email address.
- Works with Microsoft 365: Your email connects with apps like Word, Excel, Teams, and OneDrive for easy file sharing and group projects.
- Better security: Stronger protection against scam emails, suspicious links, and spam.
Do I need to do anything to prepare?
Yes. Here are two things you should do now to help ensure a smooth email migration:
- Set up your new Microsoft 365 Multi-Factor Authentication now (highly recommended): Since your new email is using a new Microsoft 365 account, you will need to create a new MFA profile. This MFA is separate from your CUNY Login MFA and different from the MFA used for your current Brooklyn College email account. Follow the guide to setting up your multi-factor authentication in advance. You can do this right now to save time and get help, if needed.
- Copy any files stored on your old OneDrive: If you stored any files in your current Brooklyn College OneDrive account, you need to copy these files to your new CUNY M365 account. Learn more about OneDrive.

Why is Brooklyn College moving to CUNY M365?

Will my email address change after the M365 upgrade?
Yes. Your new CUNY email account uses the same username as your CUNY Login. The same login you use for other CUNY systems like CUNYfirst, Brightspace, and DegreeWorks.
Here’s what your new addresses will look like:
firstname.lastname##@login.cuny.edu: This is your main mailbox account
firstname.lastname##@stu-mail.brooklyn.cuny.edu: This is your new Brooklyn College–branded address. This will become your preferred address in CUNYfirst, but you will have the option to change to other active CUNY email aliases.
firstname.lastname##@cuny.edu: This works across all CUNY schools. You can send emails from this address, too.
