Microsoft Teams is a collaboration app that helps you and your team/project stay organized and have conversations and meetings — all in one place. It integrates with other Microsoft 365 tools like OneDrive, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Teams is available to all CUNY students (sign in using your CUNY Login).

Installing Teams

Teams can be used on the web at https://teams.microsoft.com or you can download Teams for your desktop, iOS, or Android. (If you plan to use Teams frequently, it’s better to use the desktop app.)

MFA is required for all CUNY M365 accounts and for all M365 applications, including Outlook Email, Teams, Copilot, and Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and M365 mobile apps.

CUNY Microsoft 365 MFA is not the same as your CUNY Login MFA. You will need to manage verification options for each system.

Setting up Multi-Factor Authentication

1. When you first sign in to your Microsoft 365 account you will be prompted by a message that says “More information is required.”

2. Follow the steps to use Microsoft Authenticator (recommended) or click the link to use a different authenticator app. If you don’t want to use an authenticator app, click “I want to set up a different method” at the bottom to verify using a voice phone number or text message.

How do I add another MFA verification option?

After enabling your first MFA verification option, open your M365 account security info page to add other options or change/remove options.

IMPORTANT: If you enable other voice/text verification options and require access to your college email when traveling outside of the country, ensure that you have access to the phone number used for MFA verification or enable one of authenticator app options, like Microsoft Authenticator.

1. Sign in with your CUNY Login when prompted.
2. You will see a prompt the More information is required. Click Next.

3. Choose the Microsoft Authenticator (default)

4. Install the Microsoft authenticator app on your mobile device.

5. Open the app > select add an account > select Work or school.

6. Scan the QR code page appears on your setup page.

7. Approve the notification in the Microsoft Authenticator app, then select Next. Your security info is updated to use the Microsoft Authenticator app by default to verify your identity when using two-step verification or password reset.

4. Under Office Apps & Devices select Install Office

5. Click the Save As button and save the office setup files to your computer (e.g. OfficeSetup.exe).
6. Double-click on the downloaded files to install Microsoft Office apps to your computer.

Activation is connected to your CUNY Login.

Microsoft 365 is a cloud-based suite of professional-grade business applications — including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, OneDrive, Copilot, and Teams. You can use these applications on the web and install them on up to five devices (computers, tablets, and smartphones).

You also have access to 1 TB of OneDrive storage.

How do I access Microsoft 365?

1. Open your web browser and go to https://m365.cloud.microsoft
2. Sign in using your CUNY Login credentials.
