How do I make the most out of my Career Center group appointment?

Our office provides resources dedicated to support you as you navigate your career journey. We recommend the following to maximize your time in a group appointment with a Career Coach:

Please note: Because these are group sessions, the entire session will not be dedicated solely to your questions, but will incorporate questions and answers from all members of the group.

It is expected for students to follow our terms and conditions for using career services including appointments.

STUDENTS WHO ARE NEW TO USING THE CAREER CENTER

  1. Watch the orientation video

ALL STUDENTS: PRIOR TO YOUR APPOINTMENT:

  1. Register for any upcoming events that interest you at https://tinyurl.com/MagnerCurrentEvents
  2. Send your Career Coach an email, at least two days prior, that includes the following information:
    • Date and Time of the Appointment
    • Your Major
    • Class Status (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, graduate student, etc.)
    • Questions you want to address during the group appointment
    • If you’d like to review your:
      • Resume or cover letter: send the documents
      • LinkedIn profile: send the URL
    • If you’d like to discuss interview prep: send your resume and a link to the job posting for the position you are applying for
  3. Based on the appointment type, review pre-work material:

IF THIS IS A FOLLOW UP APPOINTMENT:

  1. Complete any action items that were discussed in your previous appointment.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • If you require accommodations for a visible or invisible (hidden) disability, connect with the CUNY LEADS career counselors.
  • If pre-work above is not completed or feedback from a previous appointment is not incorporated, a Career Coach may have to postpone your next appointment to meet the demand of all students.

The Magner Career Center requires you to show up promptly for your appointment. Being late to an appointment will result in a shorter appointment time. Missing an appointment without proper notification will delay appointment rescheduling/availability.
