Speech-language pathology services

Speech-language pathology services are available for clients who stutter or who exhibit developmental or acquired disorders of articulation, phonology, language, or voice. Clients receive a full diagnostic evaluation and an individually tailored remediation program, which may include one-to-one therapy, group sessions, and family training.

The center offers diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology services for those with normal hearing, hearing impairment, and auditory processing disorders, including complete audiological evaluation, rehabilitation, and hearing aids.

The center sponsors several research and community service programs, such as the Oliver Bloodstein chapter of the National Stuttering Association, a specialty lab in the study of voice, communication groups for adults with aphasia, parent training for families of children on the autistic spectrum, and social skills training for children with varying communication problems.  The center offers a two-part program to help individuals with Parkinson’s regain and maintain effective communication: SPEAK OUT!® and The LOUD Crowd!®

The center is also a training facility that works closely with the master’s degree (M.S.) program in speech-language pathology at Brooklyn College, which is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Graduate students in the Department of Communication Arts, Sciences, and Disorders work under the supervision of speech-language pathologists and audiologists licensed by the New York State Education Department and certified by ASHA.

As part of the City University of New York and as a nonprofit agency, the center offers services and hearing aids at low cost and accepts assignment from some third-party payers, such as Medicare, for certain services. The center also dispenses hearing aids to members with benefits of the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) and the Professional Staff Congress Welfare Fund of the City University of New York (PSC-CUNY).

For our hours of operation or to make an appointment, call 718.951.5186. The center is generally open year-round Monday through Friday, except when the college is closed.
